Student registration (Inscription d'un étranger dans l'enseignement supérieur)

If you are a foreign student or a refugee in France, you can enrol in French higher education. The application procedure depends on your nationality, your level of study and the type of establishment you want to join. You apply online on Parcoursup, on the Mon Master platform, through a demande d'admission préalable (DAP), or directly to the establishment.

Steps

You are a student from a European country

  1. If you want to enter the 1st year of a licence, follow the same application procedure as French students: log on to Parcoursup between end of December and mid-March.
  2. If you want to enter a master, apply on the Mon Master platform.
  3. For other levels (2nd and 3rd year of licence, doctorate), contact the establishment directly.

You are a student from a non-European country and you live in Europe

  1. If you want to enter the 1st year of a licence, file a demande d'admission préalable (DAP), generally between early October and mid-December of the year before the academic year you want. You file it online on the Dossier vert service.
  2. If you want to enter a master, apply on the Mon Master platform.
  3. For other levels (2nd and 3rd year of licence, doctorate), contact the establishment directly.

You are a student from a non-European country living in one of the countries covered by the Études en France procedure

  1. If you prepare a French or European baccalaureate and have the nationality of your country of residence, list your course choices on Parcoursup between end of December and mid-March and follow the Études en France procedure at the same time.
  2. If you prepare another diploma giving access to French higher education and have the nationality of your country of residence, make a demande d'admission préalable (DAP) and follow the Études en France procedure: everything is done online on the dedicated platform, and the DAP is generally made between early October and mid-December of the year before the academic year you want.
  3. If you have the nationality of an EU country, list your course choices on Parcoursup between end of December and mid-March.
  4. To study from the 2nd or 3rd year of licence or in a master, follow the Études en France procedure on the dedicated platform until you obtain a student visa.
  5. The Études en France procedure does not cover doctorate: contact directly the doctoral schools that offer the research subjects that interest you.

You are stateless, a refugee or a beneficiary of subsidiary protection granted by Ofpra

  1. For non-selective courses, apply directly to the university and ask it for the application dates.
  2. For selective courses (BTS, DUT, classe préparatoire), apply on Parcoursup between end of December and mid-March.
  3. You do not have to make a demande d'admission préalable (DAP) and you do not have to take the language level check.
  4. You must present the definitive document proving that you were granted protection status; the récépissé receipt of a protection application does not give these exemptions.
